Headcanon

Okay, first I should say that this is very much inspired by recent comic-excerpts that I saw in the tags. I have seen something in there that I feel makes absolutely sense for Blackfire, so I'm making this an actual thing for my version of her, and as such making this headcanon-post for it.

Blackfire can taste species. When she gets a taste of someone, she can tell right away if they're human or not completely human or some other "species" (aka some alien, or like idk, atlantean or amazonian or demons or, just, whatever else there exists). It doesn't work with every species - she relies on experience to really pinpoint-specify a species, but even without experience she can at least vaguely name the species (and, of course, her experience is rather big in these things) or realize if someone isn't completely what they most are.

👩 What is your muse's mother like? Does your muse have a good relationship with her?

I think I should start this by saying that I know nothing about the comic appearances of Starfire's and Blackfire's parents. I think they were alive in some parts there, so they might be completely different there. Okay, with that said, on to my actual answer.

First off - well, her mother IS not like anything anymore - their parents are long dead. While she lived, Luand'r was a warm and giving person. She was there for her family, she and her husband were very happy; she cared for their children and loved them all a lot. It was difficult with what happened with Blackfire, Luand'r definitely would've wanted to give her the same love and attention that Starfire (and Wildfire) recieved, but with Blackfire's behaviours and attitude, and then also what the people thought of Blackfire, it was just very difficult to do. In the end, Blackfire felt very much ignored by her parents ever since her first sibling came into it, and she would tell you very different about both of them.

But yes, their mother was a good person and she definitely tried and loved her three children all very much. It broke her heart when Wildfire had presumably died in the attempt of sending him away, and that heartbreak was enough to be her end.

Basically, the only time that I could say yes to the second question would be the time while Blackfire was still an only-child. During that time, she did have a good enough relationship with her mother (and father, but he's not the topic here). She was still rebellious and there were a few things where she absolutely didn't agree or listen to her mother, but, at least she was still fond of her at that time. After that? No, Blackfire's relationship to her mother was very much not good. She hated how her siblings got all the attention (or how it at least seemed like it to Blackfire), and she argued more and more often with both parents, and reacted rather angry than appreciating when the mother actually tried to give her attention.

It's... complicated, but basically - Luand'r was a good and wonderful person and mother (and wife), but Blackfire didn't have a good relationship with her for most of the time.

DIMITRI: Is there anyone your muse refuses to forgive or let go of? Who is it and why?

Well, I mean, obvious answer, but, Starfire. Honestly, I think most of the why or anything is pretty known here, so I'm not sure what to say. She just hates her sister and wants to bring her to suffer (and preferrably later-on under her control then or something), and it's nothing she'll ever stop with unless she actually achieves her goals for it.

The same goes for her brother, by the way, but - mostly because he was assumed dead by everyone including her for so long - the hatred isn't quite as big here.

DEDUE: Does your muse feel as if they’re indebted to someone? What caused them to feel that way? What will happen when they feel their debt has been paid?

No, Blackfire isn't one to indebt herself to anyone. Making others 'owe' her, sure, but she really avoids being helped first, and if that happens, there's pretty much no way to get her to admit that she owes the other for it. It's just a thing she really doesn't want, to be requestable for doing things, and just, yeah. Very unlikely to happen.

ASHE: Does your muse have any irrational fears? What are they? How much do these things frighten them?

I don't really think there's any fear she has that counts as irrational. She has a fear of losing her powers, and a more general one of being forced into obeying others, but, nothing really that would count as irrational.

🌸 - How would you’re muse likely confess their feelings for someone?

Well, I mean, that isn't really 'confessing' it yet, but one sign is when she does return to someone more frequently. It's a sign that she's growing closer, and that's rather rare for Blackfire to really do so it usually hints at something more being there.

She isn't big on explaining about her feelings, so even when she gets together with someone, it will be unlikely for her to say anything. Most likely, a good while of them being at least together-ish if not full-on together will have to have passed before she would ever admit to it. If/when it does happen, I can mostly see it happen during some sort of dangerous situation that the two get into together, or her special someone is in themselves. It'd probably be something about that they can't leave her, and during that she would admit to things she would rarely ever say otherwise. This is really the likeliest scenario I can imagine, so I can't really say anything else here.

Oh, or, there's another one actually! If in a relationship where she actually, like, feels for the other, it will happen not too rarely that Blackfire just leaves without any announcement. If she's actually getting confronted during one of those departures, and it leads to a heated argument, I could see it slipping out. Which would likely not stop her from leaving, much the contrary, but, yeah. At least she said it, I guess.

32. What is your idea of a perfect vacation?

"I don't really do vacations." Those were too boring in the concept, and she would much rather just spend time in a successful environment than leave it for, what, laying in the sun somewhere, or something ridiculous like that? "If you have to know an answer though, perhaps something where I can while or through relaxing still make the life of my siblings worse. No idea how that would be, but yes. And nothing too calm, because that gets boring like immediately."

38. If a genie granted you 3 wishes right now, what would you wish for?

"That can be anything, except more wishes, right?" That did leave many options, of course, and it wasn't that easy to choose. She knew one thing, though. "I'd like to get full control over Starfire, or better yet both of my siblings. Not in a way of turning them mindless or anything like that, though." And that still left two more things.

"Could be cool to have every command I ever say to be fully obeyed by those I'm talking to, so maybe that as number 2." Now, the third should be something good, as it was also the last one she had. "And then, make me invincible."

56. Why do you think you’re still single?

"Because I want it that way, of course!"

"Why would I ever want to settle down like that? Or have a weakness like that? I prefer myself free and unbound, thank you very much."

Mmm... random and unrelated, but let me just --

Blackfire will never be changing her ways. Unless like maybe if she’s brainwashed and ‘raised’ as a different person or similar far-fetched reasons; as long as she is the same person, Blackfire will never fully stop her criminal/villainous actions. Not for a lover, not for family (found or by blood), not for anything or anyone.

And she also won’t ever quite fully settle down in one place. By this, I mean she will every now and then leave, even if she found a place for longer staying (take my Successful Blackfire AU for example, she rules Tamaran and has her siblings under control, but you can bet that she still occasionally, like every 2 weeks or so minimum, randomly leaves the planet to explore or raid or go and meet up with people she knows from her businesses). It is a part of her feeling free, “alive”, so if you try to take this from her, she will not like it and do everything in her power to still leave every now and then.

Edited addon from the continuation that I wrote in answer to a comment onto this post:

I’ve before seen attempts of people to just have to make a villain change, both with Blackfire and other villains/criminals, and sometimes I just can’t see it at all. It’s one thing if the bad guy has a history that shows they’re just, like, ‘misunderstood’, and while I’m rather sure some of Blackfire’s comic versions are more that way and not a downright villain, I’ve never seen any hint of that in the cartoon or the followup comics, and I don’t know, maybe my backstory for her is just different and doesn’t have that potential, or maybe my version of her just grew to be set on villainy without really much potential about another side or changing or whatever. I just never really felt like she is the type to reform and “get tamed” because of whatever reason.

Like, I could see her, assuming whoever would be her reason to change is against killing (or against crimes in general), maybe stopping to kill where the other can actually find out if she did, or like do similar slight limitations to her usual actions; but she enjoys the thrill of stealing and fights and all that way too much to ever actually give it up! The same for at least every now and then still up and leaving to go to somewhere very else (aka another planet or so, not just another city or something like that), and she’d definitely always do that without informing anyone beforehand too.

I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’d still absolutely love to explore something with her where she builds a connection to someone, ship or close friends or whatever and maybe gets a little softened through them, but, she just would never stop to be who she is and probably sooner or later push that other away again by her behaviour. (I think that’s part of why it’s so darn difficult/impossible to even have her make friends much, but, I’m not gonna change her only because I want to have her make friends or ships or whatever)

Spiders: Does your muse squish bugs or put them outside?

A lot of the times, Blackfire would probably simply not even feel bothered by bugs, like if they are at the wall or something. It's only when they are at her or at something she was reaching for or something that she really would "take action" against them - and usually, that would include the use of her energy. So I guess it is more like squishing them, but just, more than that, more like burning them to ashes.

Ghosts: Has your muse ever seen something they couldn’t explain?

In a way, yes; there's always things that are unexpected or very surprising to see. Particles forming shapes by thoughts of someone else, beings going through walls or always getting back up after they have been "killed" - there are probably and endless amount of new things to see out there. It was never really giving Blackfire any feeling of not being able to explain it, though. She knows that the universes are endless, and that there are so many planets with so many species out there, that there's nothing that's really all that impossible.

Fire: Would your muse rather be very cold, or very hot?

Given she, like any tamaranean, doesn't really feel the temperature, she would not care. If we assume she would then also feel it, though, Blackfire would absolutely rather be very hot than very cold. She would absolutely hate the feeling of being cold, she would feel very miserable with it and while being hot also isn't all that pleasant, it would be much much preferred for her. (Plus, allowing for the obvious jokes ofc, if she'd still be in the mood for that)
